Hello Manoj,

I perceive you are referring to Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery. Though the syllabus varies in every Medical College, generally the curriculum consists of following subjects of study :

• Anatomy, Histology and Embryology.
• Physiology including Bio-Chemistry.
• Organon of Medicine, Principles of Homoeopathic Philosophy and Psychology.
• Homoeopathic Pharmacy.
• Homoeopathic Materia Medica.
• Pathology, Microbiology including Parasitology, Bacteriology and Virology.
• Forensic Medicine & Toxicology.
• Surgery including E. N.T, Opthalmology, Dentistry, Orthopaedics and Homoeopathic Therapeutics.
• Obstetrics, Gynaecology including Infant care and Homoeopathic Therapeutics.
• Community Medicine.
• Practice of Medicine including Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Skin Diseases and Homoeopathic Therapeutics.
• Case Taking and Repertory.

After the completion of the BHMS course, an individual can pursue a career and work as a private practitioner and also has the opportunity to work as faculty in Medical Institutes. If however, the career prospects have to be compared with that of MBBS, it is pretty less despite the fact that homeopathic medicines are soon gaining importance since it is believed that they have fewer side effects than the allopathic medicines. As a counselor I would recommend not to be in a rush to be a doctor, one of the most time consuming and competitive career streams.

There are a good number of options in the stream. Assess your interest and then make the choice or get back with details on the same so that we can guide you on the same.

Also, if considering higher education, on the completion of the BHMS course, you can pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery and MD as well.

I hope the above stated deals with all your queries with regard to BHMS.

Take care!
