Glion Institute of Higher Education

Glion Institute of Higher Education is an international hospitality management university in Switzerland. Opened in the fall of 1962 in the former Bellevue Hotel, Glion Hotel School (as it was then named) was the first private, university-level Swiss hotel management school.

Glion offers Bachelor Degrees, Post-Graduate Diploma and Masters of Business Administration Degrees programs that combine industry knowledge with managerial skills and personal development. The two main pathways of education are:

• Event, Sport and Entertainment Management

Every year, Glion provides post-secondary education for approximately 1,500 students from 90 countries around the world. The success of our graduates can be attributed to Glion’s time-tested merger between university academics with the Swiss hotel school model, close ties with the hospitality industry and an international university environment. For over 40 years, thousands of graduates have gone through the "Glion Experience" and carried on the famous "Glion Spirit" to represent the institution as leaders in the hospitality industry.

Accreditation and Recognition

New England Association of Schools and Colleges

Glion Institute of Higher Education is accredited at university level by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education.

State Recognition

Glion is recognised by the Canton of Fribourg-Switzerland. In 2005, Glion underwent an in-depth review that resulted in the recognition of the Canton of Fribourg, where we deliver our degrees.

Other Recognitions

• Quality Assurance Agency for higher education in the UK - this agency sets benchmarks for graduates and makes recommendations on the curriculum content.
• EdExcel is a curriculum design and awards provider in the UK for vocational awards; they set standards for the content of the programs up to higher diploma level. They also give guidance on learning outcomes, assessment methods and graduate common skills.
• Advisory Board: Composed of industry professionals in key positions, their role is to advise Glion about the evolution and trends of the industry.

The Glion campus is the starting point for all undergraduate programs and the place where students learn through hands-on practice. In this hotel-school atmosphere, personal discipline is emphasised to develop professional skills and attitudes.

Glion campus overlooks the magnificent Lake Geneva and faces both the Swiss and French Alps. It offers a unique view of the “Swiss Riviera” which is not easily forgotten. The area has an unusually mild micro-climate which allows palm trees and other exotic flora to grow in the region. Many people consider it to be one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Glion is situated directly above Montreux, the world-famous resort town. Well-known for its jazz and classical music festivals, Montreux is host to an international population and many cultural activities. The area is rich in both summer sports (soccer, tennis, biking, sailing, volleyball) and winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey). As for the evenings, there is a multitude of choices with clubs, bars, restaurants, cinemas, theaters and concerts.

Glion is also just 25 minutes by car or by train from Lausanne, capital of the Canton of Vaud, and only one hour from the international city of Geneva.
