About Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University)

The Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO - University) is one of the oldest universities in Russia that prepares specialists in various aspects of international relations. It is among Russia’s top schools of political studies. The University serves as a coordinator as well for universities in Russia and CIS countries and this cooperation aims to create common education area, to collaborate within the framework of Bologna process. MGIMO currently enrolls more than 5,000 students from 60 Russia’s areas and 64 foreign countries. Over the years MGIMO-University has trained more than 30,000 students including 5,000 foreign students.Many high-ranking officials, political leaders, diplomats, scholars (20 Members and Corresponding Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences), businessmen and journalists graduated from MGIMO-University.

MGIMO University offers summer school for International students. The objective of the Programme is to give foreign students a comprehensive picture of contemporary Russian politics, institutions and processes as well as contemporary Russian foreign policy. Students will also get a chance to learn and practice the Russian language.

This programme will provide students with a comprehensive and balanced curriculum, that combines classroom instructions with field trips, language partnerships and extra curricular activities.

About Campus

Moscow State Institute of International Relations, MGIMO University (Main Campus)


MGIMO has one campus. There are many different facilities in the campus area like main building, Hostels, Sports Centre, Cultural Centre, Library and Museum.

Each room in the building has a standardised number. The first digit indicates the number of the floor and the last two – the room number, e.g. 1030 stands for room number 30 on the first floor of the building.

The Sports Centre is situated on the University Campus. The centre has a large universal hall which accommodates mini-football, badminton, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, tennis, handball. There are also two gyms, a tennis hall, a wrestling hall (judo, aikido), a fitness room (armwrestling), an aerobics room, shooting range, swimming pool, sauna, massage room and solarium available for the students. The Cultural Centre offers students possibility to engage in various activities during their free time. The Cultural Centre regularly holds dance parties, organizes performances of MGIMO’s and invited theatre companies and ensembles, and has its own cinema hall.

The library is well established research and comprehensive containing over 700,000 volumes in books and magazines in Russian and in more than 20 foreign languages. The library is useful for all students since it contains all the textbooks used at MGIMO-University. Museum of Rare Books was founded in 1995 and is located in the library. It has a collection of 21 000 unique volumes. Open upon preliminary agreement.

Hostel includes three residential halls with all basic facilities.. Dormitory stay is available for international students at $150-200 per month.
