Tolani Maritime Institute

Tolani Maritime Institute (TMI) aims to provide quality training to the students in maritime education and to prepare them for rewarding careers in the shipping industry. TMI is one of the largest maritime institutes in the region with over 1,500 students enrolled in it's campus based and distance learning programmes. TMI offers degree programmes as well as a variety of short term courses covering both the engineering and nautical disciplines. It also extends the reach of its very successful academic model to the ship via highly effective distance learning programmes designed for cadets and junior officers

Tolani Maritime Institute endeavors to foster the following :

The Adipur campus now consists of a diverse set of institutions that provide a very broad range of education and social service. The initiative at Adipur has established the following institutes : Tolani Arts and Science College, Tolani Foundation Gandhidham Polytechnic, Tolani Kala Niketan, Tolani Institute of Pharmacy, Tolani Commerce College, Tolani Eye Hospital and Research Centre, Ramakrishna Seva Kendra, Community Polytechnic and Centre for Development of Rural Technology.

The Tolani Maritime Institute is located Talegaon, Pune. TMI's Distance Learning Programme is administered from premises located on the campus of the Tolani Commerce College in the Sher-e-Punjab Society in Andheri East. The TMI-BITS Distance Learning Centre houses the faculty that continually reviews, improves and develops new courseware for the programs, guides individual students and also evaluates their progress. The practical training facilities are targeted at the skills development aspect of learning at TMI which include a large, well equipped workshop, engineering infrastructure, mock-ups for fire fighting and other training plus other facilities designed to improve the seamanship training of TMI students.

The campus is fully wired for high performance networking in all forms. High-speed data communications take place over a fully switched network based on an optical fibre backbone with gigabyte bandwidth. Campus residents can freely access the Institute's server resources as well as the Internet from almost anywhere on the campus. All users can also take advantage of the integrated voice mail system that ensures efficient communications for persons with a demanding schedule on the widespread campus.

The entire campus provides innumerable facilities to the students which are as follows:

• Residential facilities - include hostel accommodation for students, townhouse styled apartments for faculty and an executive residence for persons enrolled in advanced courses.
• Extensive sports facilities - has a centrally located Sports Complex, a large multi-purpose playing field, a man made lake that can be used for sailing and numerous other sports facilties interspersed within the residential section of the campus.
• Student Hostels - students reside in two hostels each having more than 250 rooms, modern kitchens and separate 250 seat dining halls.
• Outdoor Sports - includes tennis courts, volleyball courts and basketball courts.

The engineering systems of the campus provide operating systems where students can witness and participate in maintenance and repair activities. Monitoring the normal operations of these systems also affords the students an opportunity to learn and perfect watch-keeping skills in preparation for their roles as shipboard watch-keeping officers. The primary components of the campus engineering system include : Power plant, Modern vapour absorption chiller, Water treatment plant and Effluent treatment plant.
