Computer Science is the study of computing and information systems, and their role in the processing, management and communication of information using digital technologies. Computer systems have impacted every sphere of business and life, enhanced multifold by the advent and spread of the Internet. Newer technologies are being developed every day for newer applications, and no sign of a slowdown has been observed so far. Advances in technology only mean that more trained computing experts are required. The trend has resulted in universities across the world investing tremendously in computing education and research in a bid to attract the best talent. The study of Computer Science Engineering actually can be divided into three broad areas: computing, information technology and computer science. Master’s programmes are offered in Software Engineering, Information Technology, and Distributed Computing. An engineering undergraduate degree in a related discipline, an undergraduate degree and graduate diploma in a related discipline, or an undergraduate degree and graduate diploma in a related discipline with at least a year of documented relevant professional work experience form the basic eligibility requirements. A valid TOEFL/IELTS score will fulfil the English language requirement.

Georgia Institute of Technology, USA

Computer and computing education began at Georgia Tech more than a generation ago in1964 with the establishment of the Information Science department and a Master's degree programme in Information Science - the first graduate degree of its kind in the USA. The College of Computing has three divisions: the School of Computer Science , the School of Interactive Computing and Computational Science & Engineering. Master’s programmes are offered in fields like Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, Information Security, Computational Science and Engineering, Robotics, and Bio Informatics among others. Scholarships are available for deserving students and for research scholars. The basic entry requirement for admission to the Master’s programme is a four-year Bachelor’s degree in the relevant engineering discipline from an internationally recognised university and English language requirements like TOEFL and IELTS.

University of Alberta, Canada

Since the medium of instruction is English, a valid score in IELTS/TOEFL is mandatory.

Over the past decade and half, India has witnessed a massive growth in Information Technology with giants like Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant and Satyam among others establishing themselves not only in the country by also across the world. These companies recruit thousands of freshers each year at graduate and post graduate levels. The trend of technology outsourcing has also led to the creation of a whole new economy based on intellect and skillsets. There is more preference for jobs in product creation in the context of new technologies, than in creating solutions based on existing technologies. Pay packages are still one of the highest across industry, and starting salaries are pegged at Rs 4 Lac or more per year in India. Compensation packages for information technologists overseas are much higher, especially for those who have experience in new technologies and product innovation.
